The Forte Apartments had centralised hot water system that was proportionally billed to each apartment. Not surprisingly, some occupants were dissatisfied that the billing was not linked to consumption, particularity as tenancies were comprised mainly of student accommodation.

Being largely steel and concrete construction with limited access it was decided BMeters ‘Hydrolink’ wireless water meter system was worthy of a trial installation. The water meters were located in the ceiling space of each apartment on the hot & cold water lines. The trial would test how effective the wireless data collection would be within the long corridors of the buildings 14 floors.

During the next two months, two readings were taken using the USB wireless receiver and a laptop computer. Data was transmitted and received in the lobby of the building. Data transmission was a success.

Approval for the immediate installation of the BMeters Hydrolink system was given, and 240 wireless water meters were installed over a 4 week period, with minimal disruption to each tenancy.
